When this album first appeared 20 years ago, it was a shock to find “earplugs” in the CD case. Although the songs are exciting and stimulating, there are also quieter songs that are placed throughout the album for the listener’s listening pleasure. The orchestra was well prepared for the recording, with 22 percussionists and four sets of rocks and hammers, and the explosion in the final track, “Hekla Volcano (Finland’s largest active volcano),” is probably the loudest sound ever written. This legendary album, long out of print, is being revived to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its release.
