Tomomiki Kitamura, born in 1991 in Aichi Prefecture, Japan, is a prize-winner at the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, the Sydney International Piano Competition, and the Leeds International Piano Competition, and has been a student at the Berlin University of the Arts since 2011. The album features Brahms’ “Piano Sonata No. 3,” a brilliant fusion of classical aesthetics and romanticism, Liszt’s late works that predicted new music by “challenging tonality,” and Berg’s only piano sonata with a work number. This spirited pianist unravels the twilight of Romantic music.
