Strictly speaking, the Prestige All Stars were not yet permanent fixtures in the jazz business, but they were an exquisite compilation of promising young talent. The 1956 album All Night Long, under the relaxed direction of guitarist Kenny Burrell, brings together some of the best musicians on the New York scene, including trumpeter Donald Byrd, tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley, flutist Jerome Richardson, pianist Mal Waldron, and Doug Watkins and Arthur Taylor in the rhythm section. The relaxed, swinging pulse of the LP and the high quality of the musical performance have long been the hallmark of every Burrel project.
