This is the first album by pianist Yusai Sakai, who has won prizes at numerous international competitions and is currently attracting a great deal of attention. The program includes Ravel’s Piano Concerto and other pieces associated with Paris, and is filled with Sakai’s passion. In the concerto, the expressive tone of the music brings out Ravel’s charms in shades and shadows. With the flexible support of Iimori and the Century Symphony Orchestra of Japan, Sakai’s rich sensibility blossomed and she sang with brilliant tone and elongated voice in this fine performance. In her solo performance, she beautifully played a difficult piece that requires a high level of technique and expressiveness, and her pianism, which she learned from her teacher Jacques Levier, shines through in her performance.
