Description
From June 1992 to March 1995, in the midst of the AIDS crisis in New York, an extraordinary theatrical collective emerged from the queer underground. Blacklips Performance Cult, initiated by ANOHNI and joined by a cabal of artists, drag queens, punks, nightlife veterans and students, staged original weekly plays at the Pyramid Club. Blacklips never attracted the attention of the general public. However, the band left a lasting impression within New York’s underground nightlife culture by mixing hypnotic dragshow, surreal horror and disconcerting tenderness.
