This is a collection of Prokofiev’s works conducted by Alexander Lazarev, a well-known conductor in Japan. In the past, excerpts from “The Clown (The Tale of the Clown who Deceived the Seven Clowns)” were included in the “Yurovsky 10th Anniversary Box (LPO-1010),” but this is the first album of Prokofiev works alone. The soloist in the violin concerto is the virtuoso Vadim Repin, who won the “Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition” at the age of 17. It has rarely been performed. In this performance, the story moves along at a brisk pace, with the famous British actor Simon Callow serving as narrator. Other works include Symphony No. 3, which uses material from the opera “Angel of Fire,” and “Dream,” written by a young composer.
