The Prince Regent Band, a brass ensemble that mainly uses period instruments, is the first collection of a series of works by composers who were oppressed during the Stalinist regime. Böhme was born in Dresden in 1870, moved to St. Petersburg in 1897, and worked in Leningrad until 1934, when he was exiled to Orenburg, on the Russian frontier, in the wake of the Great Purges, and disappeared without a trace. His works were all ignored at the time, but he has recently been reevaluated. The other Ewald is a brilliant man who studied composition at the Moscow Conservatory and architecture at the University of Petersburg at the same time. He was a member of Belyaev’s circle, and many of his works remain.
