[The Berlin Philharmonic, of which Abbado was the music director at the time, and Dvořák’s most famous symphonies are combined with relatively rare repertoire, making this Abbado’s first recording of Dvořák. Both are masterful performances that perfectly match the Berlin Philharmonic’s overwhelming ensemble and Abbado’s musicality, and are so accomplished that it is hard to believe that they were recorded live. Both are beautiful masterpieces, full of song and vitality rather than folkloric colors, and both are Abbado’s only recordings. Extremely HiFi CD specification / Oto-Shou label specification.
