Most people probably think of Wolf-Ferrari’s opera “Madonna’s Jewel,” which is included in the “Masterpieces” collection. However, Wolf-Ferrari’s other works have rarely been performed, let alone the complete opera. Although he had been composing since his teens, it was not until he was over 30 that he made a name for himself as an opera composer. Until then, he composed mostly instrumental and choral works. The works on this album are from his early years. The masterful Haider gives a sympathetic performance of three extremely beautiful and sublime works, including “Talitha Kumi,” which takes its text from the Old Testament, “Passion,” also with a religious theme, and “Chorus of Eight Voices,” which expresses his admiration for the Italian Renaissance. [Performed by Rainer Trost (tenor), Juan Martin-Loyo (baritone), Friedrich Haider (conductor), Coro El Leon de Oro [1-11], Ovielo Filarmonia [1-2].
