Description
:
This is a waltz and polka program full of the Viennese charm that established Sell’s roots as a musician. Born in Budapest, he studied in Vienna from the age of three, and made his debut as a conductor with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, etc. He spent his impressionable youth in the afterglow of the Hungarian-Austrian Empire. The 50th anniversary of his conducting career was celebrated. The fact that Strauss’s works were chosen for the album “Magic Vienna,” created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Cell’s conducting career, is a testament to this. While controlling the Cleveland Orchestra with overwhelming precision, he also showed his nostalgic singing spirit here and there. At the end of “Everlasting Movement,” you can even hear Sell’s own voice. Recorded on January 5, 1962 and March 1, 1958 at Severance Hall, Cleveland, Ohio.
