Hans Rothbout, one of the leading conductors of the 20th century, performs Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies Nos. 4 and 5. These are the only two Tchaikovsky symphonies that Rothbout recorded with the Southwest German Radio Orchestra, but both are excellent performances that follow an authentic interpretation. Rothbout, who is said to have been able to play almost all the instruments in the orchestra, gave precise instructions to the orchestra members in this Tchaikovsky performance and achieved his ideal performance. The explosive energy of the last movement of No. 4 climaxed calmly, and even in the beautiful melodies of No. 5, Rothbout played the piece in an orderly manner and attempted to explore the essence of the work.
