This is the second collection of piano works by Mikhail Glinka, who laid the foundation of modern Russian music in the 19th century. In this album, we can hear a variety of small pieces, from fashionable French-style pieces such as cadrilles and contredanses to pieces based on Russian folk songs. The best known piece is “Variations on a Theme of Mozart,” an early work. This elegant piece is often played on harp, but it is also performed on piano. It is played by Inga Folia, a female pianist of Georgian-German descent. She has won several international piano competitions and is one of the most exciting and sought after of the younger generation.
