Description
The photographs of William Claxton define the essence of cool – his stunningly intimate images of icons like Chet Baker combine technical innovation and an unerring sense of the moment to forge a singular aesthetic he defined as ‘jazz for the eyes’ – Jason Ankeny (AllMusic) –
For the cover of “Jazz at Ann Arbor” we have a photograph of Baker during a rest break at the studio. Shot in Hollywood 1954. Love and fascination were his stock in trade along with a deep and abiding love of jazz and Claxton pictures capture these qualities in abundance. On the inside, we can see Chet holding his trumpet next to his 1954 Cadillac.
