This album is composed of pieces that Lan Lan encountered as a child: Mozart’s Sonata, which inspired him to return to the path of a professional pianist, which he almost gave up on at the age of 9; Chopin’s Sonata, which he has been playing since he was a teenager and says “it requires a lot of deep thinking”; and Schumann’s “Children’s Scenes”, which he says “requires a lot of deep thinking”. Schumann’s “Children’s Scenes” has been a favorite of his since he played “From a Strange Land” in a competition when he was 11 years old. The bonus CD includes the Horowitz-arranged version of “Hungarian Rhapsody,” a piece he dreamed of performing himself as an insert in the animated TV series “Tom & Jerry,” which he watched as a child.
