Early masterpieces by Larry Young, the “John Coltrane of the organ world”! Larry Young is the founder of the modern jazz organ. The modal harmonies and detailed solo phrases based on the pentatonic scale that Larry Goldings and others utilize can be traced back to him. Recorded with Thornell Schwartz (guitar), Bill Leslie (tenor sax), and Jimmy Smith (drums), “Groove Street” (1962) offers a taste of Young’s early organ jazz. The previous album, “Young Love” (1960), is included as a bonus track. Commentary: Kazunori Harada
