Description
During a European tour with Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald was spirited through Checkpoint Charlie for a late night performance in East Germany, the only one of her career. Before heading back to the west she reportedly commented “It was like the good old days at the Savoy!” Backed by a trio of Jimmy Jones (piano), Bob Cranshaw (bass) and Sam Woodyard (drums), remastered from the original analogue master tapes.
