Here comes the first album by the duo of two young players from Belgium, Lorenzo Gat on violin and Julien Ribert on piano. Gat, who studied with Clevers and Dumay and gained attention when he won the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition, and Ribert, a pupil of the famous pianist Maria Joan Piris. Their current interest is in Beethoven, and they have played Beethoven’s sonatas many times since 2016, fully refining the works before coming to this recording. The clear sound of the parallel-string piano (a piano with straight strings manufactured by Chris Mahne, known as Barenboim’s favorite piano), which envelops the rich tone of the Stradivari, sheds new light on Beethoven’s well-known sonatas. Parallel-string pianos–a slightly more archaic style of piano typically used by the end of the 19th century–have an elegant tone and beautiful sound. Manet is widely known as a restorer who knows this instrument well.Naxos Japan
