Description
Two legends of jazz are heard unlike ever before on these previously unheard recordings from sessions recorded over two days in May 1964, at Rudy Van Gelder’s famed studio. Across the hour of scintillating West Coast jazz, Stan Getz’s uproarious sax and Bill Evans’ masterful piano playing take on a variety of jazz standards by songwriters like Cole Porter, alongside Evans’ ‘Funkallero’. The two days of sessions – which featured post-bop titan Elvin Jones on drums, bassist Richard Davis on the B-side, part of the first day’s recordings, and Ron Carter on the A-side, who joined the sessions on the second day – mark the only time Getz and Evans recorded together. This makes the album, of both individual and collaborative gold, even more special.
