The Vienna Beethoven International Piano Competition has been held every four years by the Bösendorfer Company and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna since 1961. In 2017, Rodolfo Leone from Italy, 26 years old at the time of his participation, won the first prize at the 15th competition, out of 250 participants. He shows his extraordinary talent on this debut album. He chose “Waldstein,” the most magnificent of Beethoven’s 32 pieces, and “Andante Favorit” which was originally intended as the second movement of this piece. The three pieces are the “Hammerklavier,” which challenged the limits of the instrumental capabilities of the time of its composition.
