:
Samurai trumpeter who turns the world gold. In 2014, he made his major label debut with “Rising Sun” as the first Japanese artist on US Blue Note. Since then, based in New York, he has been active internationally as a DJ Premier and a member of Akoya Afrobeat Ensemble, in addition to his own projects. In Japan, he has continued to develop his career while freely crossing genres, collaborating with MISIA, JUJU, and cero, and performing the theme song for TV Asahi’s “News Station” as a member of J-Squad. His new album, three and a half years after his last release on Concord, “Zigzagar” (2016), is a fusion of beats he programmed himself and live music based on the theme of “the strangeness of absolute nature and the great obscenity of mankind. The production is meticulously constructed down to the smallest tones and textures, and the overwhelming groove, melody, and sharp trumpet playing are brilliant.Includes mainly original songs, as well as covers of the Ohio Players’ “Sweet Sticky Thing” (also famous for D’Angelo’s version) and Herbie Hancock’s “Tell Me a Bedtime Story”. First release in Japan.
