Set in Tyrol in the first half of the 17th century, Verdi’s mid-seventeenth-century masterpiece “Luisa Miller” depicts the tragic love between the son of a lord and a village girl of different status. The script, written by Cammarano based on Schiller’s original, depicts the young lovers’ tragic death after they become entangled in a conspiracy, to which Verdi added his own authentic music. The highlight is Marina Rebeca, who sings the title role. This was her first attempt at the role, and she captivated the audience with her flawless technique and brilliant voice. The passionate singing of the singers surrounding her was also a must-see. This performance of “Luisa Miller” was also the debut of conductor Ivan Lepsic, who succeeded Wolf Schirmer as principal conductor of the Munich Radio Orchestra, and his vigorous music shows the good relationship between conductor and orchestra.Naxos Japan
