:
[This is the first Impulse release by Archie Shepp, a “free jazz fighter” who began his career in Cecil Taylor’s band. The album features Coltrane numbers such as “Naima” and “Cedar’s Song Flute,” with the exception of one original. Shepp and four other wind instrumentalists play creatively. They are all avant-garde up-and-comers. Coltrane himself cooperated in this project and participated in the jacket photo. <Archie Shepp (ts), Alan Shorter (flh), Laswell Rudd (tb), John Chikai (as), Reggie Workman (b), Charles Moffett (ds) Recorded August 10, 1964 in New Jersey
