Bulgarian-born Emir Tabakov is also an active conductor. As if following in the footsteps of his beloved late Romantic composers Mahler and Richard Strauss, Tabakov has produced a series of large-scale works and now has nine symphonies to his credit. His works, like Mahler’s, are powerful and epic, shedding light on the darker side of humanity. The Viola Concerto of 2007 is also a powerful work, bursting with violent energy and then spreading out into a desolate world, much like the works of Shostakovich. The two pieces are performed under the direction of Tobakov himself. Both performances are conducted by Tabakov himself.
