Description
Berlin DJ and editor Delfonic whacks out the old-school soul dustbeater with this four-track rework EP drawn from Roy Ayers’ Virgin Ubiquity sessions (recorded 1976-81, first released by BBE in 2004). It all began with a casual flip of ‘What’s The T?’ shared privately with BBE’s Pete Adarkwah. Enough heads asked for a wax version to push it from edit to authorised project. The result includes reimagined versions of ‘Green And Gold’, ‘Sugar’ (with Carla Vaughan), and ‘Oh What A Lonely Feeling’, with Merry Clayton lending vocals to two of the tracks. Delfonic, a regular presence on edit-heavy disco imprints over the last decade, brings tight rhythmic control and affection for Ayers’ modal phrasing throughout.
